On Sound and Spirit
Sound becomes a passage between the physical and the spiritual.
Eternal Sound emerged from an encounter with the music of Keyon Harrold, whose trumpet carries the expressive intensity of spiritual jazz — at once bodily, historical and transcendent. The drawing considers sound not simply as something heard, but as a force capable of moving through memory, faith and collective experience. The instrument merges with the human figure until performer and sound become inseparable, suggesting music as an extension of breath, consciousness and spirit. Circular forms, compressed lines and mechanical structures evoke resonance, vibration and transmission. Within this visual language, the trumpet acquires an almost archetypal presence: an instrument of proclamation, lament and awakening, carrying distant echoes of ritual and biblical imagery without becoming a literal religious illustration. The work transforms an ephemeral musical experience into a dense visual structure — an attempt to give form to the spiritual depth of sound and to the way music can connect the present with histories far older than the moment in which it is performed.
